The Farm Credit System is a nationwide network of lending institutions and specialized service organizations that are owned by their customers. Congress created the System more than 90 years ago to provide American agriculture with a dependable source of credit and closely related services.
Today, through its banks and associations, the System provides about one-third of the total credit used by America's farmers, ranchers and cooperatives. The System also serves the credit needs of rural homeowners, electric and telephone cooperatives, and rural water systems.
